Matthew Thein

Before I started painting I was a home builder , and there I had a set playbook. Structure, living room, kitchen, bath, bedrooms, entry, exit, and then I played with materials. It was fun.

But in Art there is no structure. At ;east not a strictly defined one, yes it has to relate in some form of fashion to the human experience. Be it a true representation of a flower or something that evokes the feeling of the flower opens the door to unlimited imagination of what a flower is. What anything is.

It feels like all art has to be relevant in some way. From Michelangelo to Da Vinci to Rembrandt and Turner. Picasso panted eyes on the side of a head, a white horse arched in terror, so many masters. Pollock broke the frame and them flamed out. Van Gogh who never sold a painting in his lifetime. The list is long, the bar is very high. So I honor each and every artist, skilled or unskilled, who attempts to create. Full stop, Doesn’t matter if it reaches the bar every artist has answered the call of the Creative.

With all that being said, Art allows me to let my imagination run free. May you find something Relevant for You in my Art.
